Where to start self-awareness?

This is the question we ask ourselves every time we think of something to do or some action to take that where to start?

Knowing where to start a process or action makes it easier to follow and execute. So, here we will try to understand where we start the journey to self-awareness. Of course, this is not the most appropriate way but it has worked for many so we have stated this as the first step to self-awareness.

First, let’s see what is self-awareness?

Self-awareness is knowing what we are not from outside but from inside and to know how we can control the inner powers and actions within us. Self-awareness is an unending process and is continuous in nature. You cannot state that you know yourself completely as you keep living and facing new challenges and phases in your life, new faces and emotions of your inner self gets revealed. But definitely, you can control the inner state through having self-awareness.

Where to start self-awareness?

As we have known now what self-awareness is, let’s see how we can start our journey to self-awareness. As already stated above, this is not the solid or mandatory first step but for most of the people, it has worked as the first step so we have decided to explain it in more details here.

Before stating the step kindly answer the below question:

How many inner voices do you have? One or more than one.

Now, if you answer is one then you will change your answer by the end of this article? And if your answer is more than one then reading this article will solidify your thoughts and will help you to channelize it.

The inner voice is nothing but the thoughts, suggestions or imagination we have in our mind. The inner voice is very powerful and it is the power causing your decisions, words, actions, and dreams. So how does knowing that how many inner voices you have will get you towards self-awareness? The answer is simple, self-awareness is knowing you and knowing the inner voice and its presence is the very first step towards self-awareness.

Each and every human have majorly two inner voices which are termed as conscious and subconscious mind; system 1 and system 2; objective and subjective mind; logical and emotional mind; rational and irrational mind and the list goes on. A clear difference between the two voices is that one voice is analyzing facts and data while the other voice is more towards emotions and experiences. We human say that our brain is saying to do this but our heart is not towards it but in actually it’s all your brain who can do the thinking and thus it is your brain with two voices or system one more logical and another being more emotional. Also, if you say you have more than two voices in your mind, then it’s just a sub voice or branch of either of these two main voices.

So why knowing that you have two voices is of more important for self-awareness. Knowing that you have more than two voices within you helps you to be clear that what is inside you and what you have to be aware and take control of. See, most humans don’t know this and they spend their lives in the struggle between these two voices. As you now know this you are now above many humans living on this earth.

You can control your voices and decide which one to decide and which not. Both voices inside you are for your wellbeing and good fortune but you have the choice to choose between the two voices in every situation or circumstances. Now, the question arises why to choose between the two voices if both are for our wellbeing? Because the voices are different one giving you guidance based on logical facts and data and other giving you suggestions through emotional and experience-based thoughts, you being in that situation or circumstances had to decide that acting on which voice will be more prominent in that situation and thus you end up controlling the voices and taking willing decisions and choices.

But this is not at all easy. You will need continuous practice and observation to implement this and become better day by day. Once you start observing your inner voices and actively choose one over another you will now own your life and its decisions and its consequences. You will then be one of those few who has started knowing themselves and willingly decided to be at peace by controlling the inner voices.
